Name: Nikolai “Kolya” Arlovski (only Ivan is allowed to call him Kolya)
Age: Appears 23
Race: Fallen Angel
Occupation: Works for Ivan Braginski.
Appearance:
Nikolai is thin, with ivory skin and ice blue eyes that are framed by sandy blonde hair. On the top of his head, there’s a small bunch of hair that sticks up above the rest. He’s never bothered to do anything about it, and if anyone mentions it, the look he gives them shuts them up fairly quickly. His features are sharp and rather pointed, giving him an alluring, yet intimidating look that, more often than not, scares others away. His eyes carefully hide whatever he may be feeling, which often gives him an uninterested or blank expression, and the fact that he has the tendency to stare doesn’t help much. He prefers to wear simple clothing, and is never found without his favored black coat, which hides a well-cared for gun that looks like this. He doesn’t need it for self-defense, but he’s taken quite a liking to it nevertheless.
Personality: Nikolai is, for lack of a better term, a rather complicated being. On the surface, he’s cold and calculating, quiet and reserved. He’s often silent, and when he does talk, he doesn’t say much unless he really wants to be heard. Despite his inability to show emotions, however, he does have a bad temper. When something makes him angry, he really gets angry, and he has no qualms with killing or otherwise violently disposing of whatever it was that agitated him. He’s downright scary when he’s truly angry, and it’s best not to get on his bad side if you value your life. He finds it hard to hold a normal conversation, and is horrid with showing his true feelings. He’s not the kind of person you generally feel comfortable around, and because of this, even when he tries to be more amiable, others still tend to flee from or are very timid around him.
He enjoys being praised (especially by Ivan), even if he can’t seem to outwardly show it. When he warms up to someone, he can be fiercely devoted to that person, and will go to many lengths to protect them. Contrary to popular belief, Nikolai can actually be quite gentle and even loving if he tries, much to the surprise of almost anyone who has ever met him—angel, demon, or otherwise. Although he is rather socially and emotionally detached, and therefore finds it annoyingly difficult to express himself, he isn’t incapable of caring.
But despite his (deeply) underlying ability to be gentle, he’s not quite right in the head. Nikolai has a somewhat unhealthy obsession with Ivan and pleasing him, as Ivan is the only being he can look up to for advice and comfort now that he can no longer see God in that way. As of yet, he hasn’t met a single being that he has liked/loved more than Ivan—not even close. He is fiercely and eternally loyal to Ivan, and would readily die for him if the need arose. He is also mildly sadistic in that he has no qualms with torturing someone—sometimes, he even enjoys it—but only if he believes that someone deserves it. If Ivan tells him to kill or torture someone or something, he will. He will also do it if he believes the someone/something deserves it. However, he will do no harm to those whom he believes do not deserve it. For example, he would gladly have his way with, say, a lying priest or rapist, but he would never dream of hurting a child or some other innocent. Essentially, he channels his violent tendencies in ways that are, in a way, helpful, or at least not entirely harmful. If someone else ever does make their way into his heart, however, he’s a protective one, and more than a bit possessive as well. He will be devoted to and protect that person/being until the day he dies.
He is also very patient, which can be both a good thing and a bad thing, depending on how he feels about you. Being at least as old as humanity, he’s learned and the virtue of patience, which works well to his advantage. He does lose his patience sometimes (and when he does, it’s frightening), but most of the time he’s very reserved, and it’s incredibly hard to make him lose his cool.
Likes:
+ Ivan. Nikolai idolizes Ivan and looks up to him, despite the fact that Ivan is a demon and was the reason he Fell. He believes Ivan to be his savior, for lack of a better term, and holds him in a higher regard than God, whom he believes to have abandoned him and all His other creations.
+ Vodka. Ivan introduced him to the drink, and since then vodka is really the only thing he drinks (mainly because he is still an angel, regardless of his Fallen status, and thus does not need sustenance as humans do).
+ His gun. Even though he doesn’t necessarily need it, as he has his Grace to defend himself with, he’s taken a liking to guns and treasures his own gun, it being his prized (and only) true possession.
+ Snow. Being an angel, he’s not much affected by earthly weather; he could wear a t-shirt and shorts in the dead of winter and not feel cold at all, nor can he really feel warmth. However, he likes snow. He thinks it’s beautiful in its own way, and although walking through it can at times be a bit annoying, he enjoys looking at it and watching it fall. As such, he prefers colder climates. (It also gives him an excuse to wear his coat without getting odd looks, as he hates drawing attention to himself.)
+ Music. His favorite instrument is the piano. He is able to play it moderately well, although he rarely does.
+ Sunflowers. He quite likes them. (May or may not be Probably because of Ivan's influence.)
Dislikes:
- Standing out. More often than not, he prefers to blend in, and he doesn’t like drawing attention to himself most of the time. He likes to stay in the shadows, where he has the element of surprise, and he’s also capable of making himself invisible to humans if need be[1]. He’s quite the gifted spy.
- Dogs. He’s more of a cat person.
- Many humans. Nikolai doesn’t have a soft-spot for humans, whom he views as ignorant nuisances at best. His distaste for them is nowhere near Lucifer’s hatred, but he doesn’t exactly hold them in high regard either.
- Most demons. Despite his very high regard for Ivan, he greatly dislikes most other demons, viewing them as inferior pests who are not worth his attention.
- Most angels. Even though he is an angel himself, he would now much rather avoid his brothers and sisters whenever possible. He doesn’t understand why the other angels continue to serve a God that is, in his mind, dead, and has been for a long time.
- Riding in cars. In his mind, they are incredibly slow and confining, and combined with his frustration with technology in general, he likes to avoid cars when possible.
[1]: In an episode of Supernatural, Castiel was able to make himself invisible to Sam, Dean, and Bobby. I figured if he could do that, then at least a few other angels would be able to do the same.
Fears:
~ Ivan’s disapproval.
~ Ivan’s death.
~ Hellhounds. As previously mentioned, he’s more of a cat person, and although he will never admit it to anyone, hellhounds sort of creep him out. A lot.
History: Nikolai was once a powerful angel of the Host. For a long time, he was content with giving and receiving orders that were passed down from the higher-ups, like Michael or Raphael. He had four wings, making him higher-ranking than the "foot-soldiers," who only have two wings, but lower-ranking than the archangels, who have six. He was a force to be reckoned with, and he'd always done his job well. He was obedient and intimidating; none of the angels below him ever thought to cross him, and his superiors knew they could trust him.
However, after the war and Lucifer's Fall, Nikolai began to have his doubts. What if Lucifer was right about the humans? What if God was wrong? And where had God gone? It seemed as though He'd disappeared after Lucifer was cast into his Cage. Surely if He were still present, fighting amongst each other wouldn't have been necessary...
For a long time, he kept these doubts in check, and never told anyone of his thoughts. But the longer time went on without a single word from a God that he'd never even seen anyway...the more doubtful his thoughts became. Then, he started hearing things; rumors that God had left, abandoned them all, or even died. The more he thought about it, the more sense it made. Tension had been building in Heaven for a long time, little squabbles broke out here and there, and Nikolai was sure that God wouldn't have allowed that to happen if He were still around. So, in Nikolai's mind, either He was gone, or He simply didn't care. And, eventually, his doubt and the annoying spats amongst his siblings, the rising tension and the deafening silence from a supposedly loving and omnipresent God got the better of him. He left Heaven, taking a vessel and walking the earth for years.
Much had changed since he had last paid any attention to humanity, and he was unfamiliar with most things. He was shunned from the village his vessel had lived in, the people believing that his change in behavior meant that he was possessed by the Devil. Even after he escaped from the mob, which was easy enough in itself, most humans seemed to prefer avoiding contact with him when possible. They could tell that he was not one of them, or at least that he was not normal. It was annoying at times, but Nikolai made the most of it. He didn't particularly want to interact with humans anyway; he had never liked them very much, and seeing them now, the way they fought amongst each other, killed each other over race and greed, waging war over dust, rubble, and words in old books (most of which weren't even true)...he much preferred the solitude.
It was in the late fourteenth century when he finally met Ivan.
At first, he was wary. Ivan was a demon--a powerful one, at that--one of Lucifer's creations. But, at the same time, he couldn't help but be drawn in. It was almost like speaking to Lucifer himself; Ivan was persuasive, and he seemed to know exactly what to say. Nikolai didn't trust easily by any means, but he found himself trusting Ivan. It wasn't long before he found himself believing every word that came out of the demon's mouth. One phrase in particular gripped him: "If you no longer believe in God, then believe in me, as you can see, I am very, very, real."
It was at that moment that Ivan gained himself a fiercely and eternally loyal follower.

It was cold.
Nikolai stood beneath a dead tree, small flakes of snow falling softly all around him. The wind blew his coal-colored coat around with a gentleness that seemed almost ironic, considering the sharp feeling of cold it brought with it. All was perfectly silent, save for the quiet sound of snow hitting the ground. It was calm and peaceful in its own way, despite the stinging chill and the eerie darkness that accompanied it.
He sometimes wondered what Ivan saw in this place.
He frowned at the thought of questioning his brother, but he did not see why Ivan liked this place. He did not see why Ivan loved that human so much. He wanted Ivan to love him, not that useless human. He was better, he understood Ivan better than anyone, better than that mortal woman who would eventually die and hurt Ivan. And he did not want Ivan to be hurt.
But it did not matter, he supposed. For now, she made Ivan happy, and Nikolai supposed that that would have to do. He did not want to have to see Ivan upset, and if the woman pleased him, then Nikolai would leave her be. However, he couldn’t help but think that something was going to happen to his beloved brother soon; something that would change everything…something bad.
But he supposed that it was a thought for another time. Perhaps he would speak to Ivan about it. He closed his eyes for a moment, focusing on the frigidness of winter that he never felt back at home, before spreading his wings.
It was as if no one had ever been there.
(From a different RP.)
Additional Information:
- He's not very good with modern technology, excluding guns. He can understand the basics, but give him anything more complicated than a cell phone, and he'll probably just stare at it. And possibly end up breaking it.
- He has four wings. They're like a raven's in color, being mostly black but with blue undertones. He always keeps them hidden.
- His true form is about 1.5 times as big as Castiel's, whose true form is "approximately the size of your Chrysler Building."
